Thailand is currently one of the best countries in the world to make a property investment profit, according to David Stanley Redfern Ltd. People who bought in Bangkok a few years ago have watched pieces of their property double, even triple and quadruple in some cases. Paul Collins from BuyAssociation believes that areas such as Panama, Belize and Argentina should all prove popular with investors. He also thinks that those countries closer to home such as Eastern Europe will also be popular, driven more by the holiday market.

Panama in particular should attract investors as foreign income is not taxable in the country. But also there are far more direct flights to south American countries now than ever before and there is potential rental income from the US market.

Asian and European share indices have continued to fall amid fears of a recession in the US.

London's FTSE dropped 3 per cent when it opened, leading to fears of a global recession. It has since recovered. However, Asian markets had dropped earlier and the Nikkei continued to decline. It is down by 18 per cent so far this year.

Analysts believe things will continue to fall and much will depend on how the US performs when it opens later today.
